2nd Annual Homecoming Concert!
Wednesday April 1,2009
Howdy everybody!!!! So I am in the midst of spring cleaning, and by the
looks of it I will be here till next spring, still cleaning.Ha ha no I
am determined to finish this week, but it seems my garage has nothing
but junk in it,funny how that happens.Anyhoo I am still trying to catch
up with myself after our crazy Juno weekend in Vancouver. We worked the
entire time,doing media,meet n greets,fanfare,rehearsal,gala
dinners, receptions, rehearsals, and the show itself, non stop almost no
sleep, but it was totally worth it,I loved every minute of it!!!!! I was
so nervous through the performance,I could barely breathe, but it went
great!!!! I got to meet Bryan Adams,Sara Mclachlan, which was huge for
me!!! Other highlights Elvis Costello, legendary Loverboy, and so many
more.and of course the diamonds...... but I just wanted to take the
time to update everyone on my 2nd Annual Homecoming concert in my
hometown Wikwemikong Reserve,on my family's property right where I grew
up!!!! This year it's gonna be bigger and better, after listening to the
suggestions from all the fans at last years show,we have made some
adjustments to make it more fan friendly. This year I will play much
earlier to avoid the mosquitos, and I will have a couple meet n greets
through out the day,to make it easier, instead of doing it so late. Also
this year we are turning it into a full day event, featuring other acts
of different styles of music, country, rock, blues,R&B and more
country. This year we will also allow vendors to set up and more food
and beverage choices for a real festival atmosphere.Just like last year
10$ per person, children under 3$ are free, dogs are welcome as long as
you clean up after them and respect other people's space.Bring your own
lawn chair or blanket and don't forget the bug spray. The purpose of my
homecoming concert,is a way to bring the community together through
music,in a positive family environment. Most importantly to fundraise
money to put a music program at the local high school, the first step of
my Dawn of A New DAY foundation. It has always been my dream,to someday
get to a point in my career where I can come back to Wiky and give back
to my community as they have given so much to me.I am certainly not at
a point financially where I can just start the foundation and so I am
making small steady strides to do what I can,I gotta start
somewhere, and I don't want to wait anymore.I have tunnel vision and
ever since I made this my goal,no negativity in this business has been
able to discourage me from giving up,for that very reason. When things
get tough I always tell myself,"imagine what you could bring home if
you just keep going".I don't know why I feel this way,I just do.I think
a real good music program would give confidence to the students, and
provide a way for students to deal with their own individual
issues.Lack of self-esteem leads to dropping out of school, teen
pregnancy, suicide and is a road block for dreams.Music helped me and I
can only hope it can bring some positivity to their everyday. So anyhoo
keep checking in for updates on performers and scheduling, and save the
date on your calendar July 31st,a fun affordable way to spend the day
with your family. Also stay in Wiky the whole weekend and check out our
amazing Pow-wow,featuring native dancers and drummers and singers and
vendors, a true cultural celebration.Don't forget our local theatre
group De-ba-je-mu-jig Theatre always puts on a wonderful production
that weekend. So bring the family to Manitoulin and camp out all
weekend,on the largest fresh water Island.Holah I sound like I work in
tourism, lol!!! ALso dont forget to check out my fans sites on myspace
and facebook for more updates.Hope to see you all there, peace
